A Guide to Long Span Shelving!

What Is Long span Shelving?

Heavy Duty Shelving, Storage Shelving, Garage Shelving, Warehouse Shelving, Long Span Racking, and many other types of long-span shelving are among the many names given to this type of shelving.

By definition, Long span or Long-Span means spanning a large distance. Often, it refers to shelving units that are able to extend to great lengths or are long enough to span great distances.

In general, they are made of steel and are strong enough to support heavy loads.

Domestic and commercial shelving is extremely versatile, which is why long-span shelving is used so extensively.

Storage warehouses can equally easily use shelving units six meters long that are found in people's garages.

Long-span shelving components

A long-span shelving system consists of three major components: vertical uprights, horizontal beams, and internal shelves.

Vertical Uprights

It is the uprights, which stand at each end of a shelving unit, that is connected by shelving bays when the shelves are extended They are the connecting point between the shelves.

Horizontal Beams

As long as uprights remain in place, horizontal beams determine the length of the bay. When combined with uprights, they permit shelving units to be extended.

Internal Shelves

During assembly, the internal shelves are placed between two uprights and inside two beams. Here is where you store your items. The design of a typical Heavy Duty Long Span Shelving unit for a single bay usually consists of two outer uprights, eight horizontal beams, and four or eight inner shelves.

Setting up long span shelving

Putting together long-span shelving is fairly easy and can be completed by two people in a short amount of time.

  • Unpack your boxes and organize the three main components, uprights, beams, and shelves, into groups.

  • Divide the beams into two groups of four, one on your right and one on your left. You will need these nearby in order to attach them to the uprights later.

  • With the beams at arm's length, position the vertical uprights standing facing each other. (If you're alone, you can use a wall to hold one upright.)

  • Place the beam into the outer section of the upright with one hand and get your partner to place the other end of the beam on the other upright with the other hand. There is typically an inner lip on beams that slips into the outer part of the upright for ease of assembly.

  • For your second beam, repeat the same process directly opposite This will give you one shelf space and keep the shelving unit stable. Repeat the same process for all your other beams.

  • It is now possible to insert the shelves after the beams have been installed.

  • If you wish to add an extra layer of security to your shelving unit, you can bolt it down.

  • That's all there is to it. Assembling a Long Span Shelving unit with one bay is all you have to do.

Benefits of Long span Shelving

Extendible – If you need additional functionality, you can purchase it.

Click-in System – The installation process is simple and does not require any tools

Materials and Quality

The quality of a product can vary. However, if it is able to support 800kg or more and comes with a reasonable warranty, then you can assume that it is of high quality.

A few things to keep an eye out for are cracks in the welding and that it is well-assembled.
